This antibiotic will ruin you.

4739Hi there, we need to talk. My name is Amy Moser. I have almost written this post at least 20 times and got too overwhelmed and abandoned it. Well here goes…

The antibiotics you took or are taking for your sinus infection, UTI, skin infection, laser eye surgery…ect…may have already damaged you.

Cipro, Levaquin, Avalox, nearly every generic ending in “quin”, “oxacin,””ox,”…are all part of a large family of antibiotics called “Fluoroquinolones.” The FDA finally updated their warning on these antibiotics as of July 2016. They site “multiple system damage that may be irreversible. Permanent you guys. Here is the link for the warning if you are a doubting Thomas: https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm500143.htm. Take a gander real quick if you are reading this with an eyebrow raised. Trust me, I wish I had been given the opportunity to soak up this information before it was too late.

In 2010, I took Cipro for a UTI and it changed my life forever. A round of antibiotics literally changed the path I was walking, into a path that I couldn’t even crawl on. Multiple spontaneous tendon and ligament ruptures, spinal degeneration, and arthritis that is widespread. We are talking multiple joint dislocations and surgeries to most of my large joints and spine. Twenty surgeries in the last 7 years if you wanna count. I said T W E N T Y. This class of antibiotics were supposed to be only used as a last resort antibiotics, if all other options had failed. They never were supposed to be given for common infections. They damage the body so seriously because they actually damage the mitochondrial DNA. Those affect all cell function. Fantastic. You now have tissue paper tendons and ligaments. You are a human piñata at a party and life is whacking you left and right. Do you know what it feels like to hear and feel your shoulder pull apart like taffy, or your achilles pop and tear apart like an old rubber band? It gets even better. Flouroquinolones cross the blood brain barrier. This can result in psychiatric events, depression, and suicidal thoughts. I was incredibly fortunate not to have the psychiatric side of this.

Here is another sickening truth…the damage is cumulative. The more exposures you have to these antibiotics, the more damage is done to your body. Not just for some people, ALL people. A hundred percent of people who take a Fluoroquinolone antibiotic, show changes in blood flow to the tendon, cartilage, and ligament in their bodies. Each person has a different breaking point depending on their own unique DNA. Some people fall apart or die after 1 pill. I fell apart after my 4th round of Fluoroquinolone antibiotics in my life and some people are on their 25th round and are still oblivious to what is happening inside them until they break. It might not even be a physical one. It may be a psychotic one. By then, it’s too late. The damage is done.

This was my nightmare. It gets worse. There is no cure. No treatment. No relief. No specialist even. Im telling you…if it hadn’t been for the knowledge that God is ever present and with me…I would have walked out in front of a bus. He is the reason I am sane…well mostly.

I am writing this in hopes that you will educate yourself and your families. Don’t take that antibiotic in ignorance one more time. Don’t take your chances. Don’t be afraid to demand an alternative. You get only one life.

I am convinced that a large portion of why God allowed this in my life, is so that I could use my loud mouth to educate you. To share the blessings and miracles He has given me throughout this journey and to be my obnoxious self for a cause that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. If you take a Fluoroquinolone by choice…please don’t tell me. It makes me have anxiety and it makes me worry about something I can’t control. Only you can control what goes in your body. When you tell me you take these antibiotics, it makes me feel physically ill. If you only understood the risk you are taking, you wouldn’t take it. Save the explanation. There are alternatives if you demand them. I’ve refused these medications on multiple occasions and so has my mom who is allergic to penicillins and Cephalosporins and Sulfa. There are other options if you demand them. If you don’t have Anthrax poisoning, or pseudomonas bacteria…my family doctor will tell you, they can figure something else out.

I am going to share some trustworthy Fluoroquinolone warning links. If you look them up…I am sure you will be glad you did. Do it for yourself and do it for your friends and your family.

Over the last 7 years, I’ve been to 3 Rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons and spine surgeons, physical therapists, physical medicine and rehab specialists and 3 different primary care doctors. There is no treatment but to try to put back together what breaks.

I have seen multiple docs from Mayo clinic and they are in the same boat as the others. They don’t know how to reverse it. They can’t. The science is not there yet. I contacted a doctor from Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, his name was Jay Smith, and he had been part of a research study of the effects of Fluoroquinolones on the musculoskeletal system in the athletic population. He actually wrote me back when I asked him for a consult and told him I would even fly there for an appointment if he thought he could help me. He said that he didn’t know how to treat it. They know the science behind the damage that Fluoroquinolones cause, but the science is not there yet in how to reverse it.

I will tell you this. I reached an incredibly low and dark place when he responded with this. You have to understand that I have had a miracle. God is what has gotten me through this and I can’t put the credit on anything else. The ministers at my church prayed for me with blessed oil. In the Bible it talks about this in James chapter 5. I had an incredible experience during that “administration.” My son was 8 years old at the time and he had a dream that night where God spoke to him and told him that “He was going to heal his mom, but we had to be patient.” This was 5 years ago. I am hiking mountains regularly now. My body still has many problems but my progress has been a miracle and all my surgeons and doctors will tell you the same. God is the great physician, and He alone is the answer. I did write a book about this. It’s called “The Magnificent Story of a Lame Author.” It is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, and Kobo. There is also a link directly to Amazon from my blog homepage. I have had countless blessings through this and the credit for the improvement is God’s.

We have to get this information out there. Spread it to everyone you know. Print the FDA warning and show it to your friends and family and even your doctors. Sometimes the warnings slip through the cracks and they don’t know. You could save their lives. Alright people, let’s make a positive difference! Below are further medical study links and warnings associated with Fluoroquinolones. They were sent by a German contact who has compiled this information. Some cannot be directly linked, but if copied and pasted in the search bar, will be accessible. 1. There are a couple things that no other antibiotic can cover. Anthrax and pseudamonas are a couple of those. With those 2 things, you are going to die left untreated. A Fluoroquinolone antibiotic in those cases, gives the patient and doctors an option, allbeit a knarly one. You nay want to give them a shot in those cases, otherwise short of a last resort, these antibiotics should not be prescribed. Its like chemo for cancer. The cancer will eventually kill you, and the chemo may kill you also and leave you damaged as well, but it also may save your life from cancer.

      1. I have bronchiectasis with pseudomonas and have to take Cipro when I get any infection that activates the pseudomonas. Any infection can do this. Several years back I was on a long prescription of Levaquin. After about a week my back was killing me and I went online just to check it out. All I saw were pages of lawsuits. Then the pages of side effects. My right thumb went out of joint and still does easily, my feet and ankles have hurt for years. My doctor said he was trying to keep me out of the hospital. I told him I would rather have spent a month in the hospital than what I have been left with. But the worst is Cipro, for the pseudomonas. I have lost a great deal of smell and taste. It will never improve and I have lost so much pleasure eating. Beef tastes almost rotten to me. Like you said, no other drugs for my infection. I’ll just keep limping around I guess especially after sleeping or sitting. And when people get around me coughing, I could choke them for being in public spreading bacteria for folks like myself to get seriously ill and having to take these deadly drugs. A great article, thank you.

      2. Pan, I’m terribly sorry you have to live with this. My grandma had mycobacterium pneumonia and took Cipro. We didn’t link her sudden personality change and the beginning of her crippling anxiety to having to take Cipro, until years later when we found out the culprit for all of my problems. I know it’s a major life struggle. Hang in there.

    1. Yes we can send people to the moon and yet so many drugs are debilitating or killing us? The answers lie with the drug companies. There is a cure for cancer out there somewhere. But drug companies want it to be silent. They wouldn’t make their billions made from cancer patients.

  3. Thank you for pulling this information together. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid Arthritis, diabetes, tinnitus, Neuropathy, joint failure in knees and shoulders, autoimmune syndrome, all considered to be from unknown causes. As I look back on the past 11 years since this began, I realize I had taken Cipro for an infected tooth and after a root canal. I’m now confined to a wheelchair.
    Keep warning people.

      1. Thank you so much for your bravery and validating blog. I truly believe these antibiotics disabled me and took my life as it once was. I cannot find a doctor to acknowledge this and don’t have the financial resources or the strength to fight this. I can only hope that people will continue to spread the truth and pray. God bless you!

    1. I had some of your diagnosis that I began experiencing at 48 years old. I decided to have a hormone panel test and it showed I was very low in vitamin d and testosterone. Previous to getting checked I was experiencing digestive issues like bloating, joint aches, severe anxiety, reflux. The doctor diagnosed me w/hypo-thyroid. Took me a year going to Primary Care , GI docs, GYN docs, to finally get a diagnosis Hyp-thyroid which causes a lot of the symptoms I was experiencing. I began pellet therapy and my symptoms improved by 90%! I’m am a lot happier!!!!

    2. June, I too live a very similar life as you. I am 63. About 5 years ago I slowly cut out the 13 pills I took each day. Some of those I had been taking for over a decade. Now that I am clear minded,I see the damage my body had endured. My physical body is old and frail. Mentally I have constant brain fog. But every day is a new day and I try my best. And I am more happy knowing that each day maybe, just maybe, my body is overcoming the side effects of these toxins. I hope for the best of health to you.

  5. I thank you for your diligence in providing all of this information. I’ve taken Cipro on many occasions as well as Levaquin and have been plagued with many symptoms that have yet to be explained or diagnosed. It all makes perfect sense now. I live with chronic pain and at the age of 53 can’t even imagine what my life will be like in 10 years. It’s quite depressing. Like you, it is my knowledge of a Loving God and my faith that gives me the courage and strength to persevere. I wish you the very best in your attempts to reach those who have not yet been affected. Your target audience should be young people who still have the opportunity to choose for themselves and their children not to use these drugs. Knowledge is power. Thank you for your efforts.

I have spent all day researching and reading all I can to understand this horrific condition. Your blog has not only informative, but it has given me hope. I pray that my daughter doesn’t have to endure what you went through. You are strong, and I admire your strength and faith. Science and God can work together. We don’t have to pick one or the other. Time will tell what my daughter will be faced with. In the meantime, I will praying.

  8. So, I’ve been prescribed this (these) class of antibiotics on NUMEROUS occasions and, have also seen my health decline over the last 20 years. How do I even go about finding out if this is exactly my problem? What tests do I need to ask for? From your blog, there’s no cure, but is their a way of “managing” this? I’ve suffered for so long, I’ve contemplated suicide, I’ve relied on God, and I’ve never applied for disability. Now I am to that point, but don’t even know where to start.

    2. I’m so sorry Faith. Diagnosis is more vorrelariin of symptoms beginning with when you took a Fluorowuinolone, and process of eliminating other possible genetic and autoimmune disorders. Managing symptoms has been a juggle since the beginning. Physical therapy that is gentle by a therapist who knows about the fragile connective tissue, surgeons to repair ruptures, good regular doc to keep an eye on heart health, and maybe a psychologist if you struggle with psychiatric side effects from the medication. I have even wished to die at times, and from the extent of this damage and degree of pain, I don’t think it’s uncommon among all of us affected. God is all that keeps me from despair. I am so sorry, I send you my love and hugs. I have improved over time. I’m nowhere near normal, but its better than it was at one point in time.

      1. Chet, it’s never to late to try to recover from the effects of fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Most recovery recommendations include eating only whole organic foods and possibly taking some supplements to provide nutrients for mitochondrial health, and NOT eating processed foods that may have additives and sugars that cause us more inflammation & pain. Consider joining a Facebook support group, such as the Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/floxies/ which helped me greatly in getting at least some recovery from the horrible effects of these antibiotics.

I have read a lot of the comments on here and have learned that you can not sue if you have taken a generic form. It seems I read where there was a civil suit for people that had damage from the drug if taken before a certain date? Do you happen to know if this is true?

I would never have heard of this other than reading the slips that come from the pharmacies whenever I get a Cipro prescription. I have begged doctors NOT to prescribe me Cipro…because I do have allergies to some other antibiotics, they tell me thats all I can take. I happen to have A-Fib and Cipro is horrible for anyone with heartbeat irregularities. No one cares. Where do we turn? It can blow up your aorta!! And no one cares. I am calling my cardio tomorrow and ask him what to do and see if he cares. God Bless you and may a miracle to you and for you and anyone else that has been affected by these meds. I hope we get some answers and a cure.

  17. I have shared this site in the hopes of helping others; thank you for taking the time to raise the alarm. In 2008 I had a reaction to taking Cipro. My skin was sloughing on during a bath. After I got out, I rubbed my arms over the sink and the skin just came off like parmesan cheese. It was tanned skin, so I knew it was not normal skin cells. My sister found on article online about a woman whose skin began peeling off in layers after taking Cipro! I told a manicurist about it and she said she took Cipro multiple times. The next time I saw her a year later she had had multiple shoulder surgeries. She tossed a doll to her daughter and the ligament or tendon (?) attached to her shoulder had ‘melted’ and was no longer attached. How sad that we cannot trust our doctors, but have to do our own research. Most people do still trust their doctors. Well, no more for me; I am my own doctor now.

There are 500,000 cases of cdiff every year and 30,000 people die every year. 80% of the 30,000 who die are over the age of 65. Check it out! I got cdiff from clindamycin which is directly linked to cdiff.

It caused severe reaction to deep and shallow nerves all over her body. She was declared 100% disabled after extensive nerve tests. She describes the pain as like when you fall on gravels. It never stops. We have been to over 35 doctors and specialists. The only temporary relief she has gotten is from deep tissue Laser therapy. She has no feeling from the knees down, making it almost impossible to walk. The pain is now concentrated in her hands, but continues to cause multiple other problems. Hand tremors, confusion, cataracts, insomnia, etc. EVERY doctor we have seen still prescribes Levaquin! We checked into possible class action suits, but attorneys all said the warnings cover the manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson.

Made my other toes grip up called hammertoe. I walk with a limp and get off balance because my pinky toe is useless. So I pray no one ever has this problem. I’m damaged for life

  20. My first, and only round of Levaquin, resulted in dramatic altered sense of taste and smell thst started day 2-3 of starting this drug. Two years later food still remains bland. Loss of sense of smell is scarry….Cannot smell smoke, a factor that aids in realizing fire nearby. No longer able to detect bad food or milk. $$$ and attempts by ENT to find a way to reverse, no luck. Seems a large number of md’s are uninformed or turn blind eye to side effects of these drugs. Sadly, just one dose can have life long effects, let alone the cumulative effects over time.
Seems like a class action law suit over all side effects might wake up medical/drug community…..not just one for ruptured tendons.

Probably the worst part of being “one of the victims” of this drug is that doctors will continue to prescribe it in its various forms. They say there is no other choice for you because you have run out of options for your type of infections.

  22. My wife took this twice. She was never informed of the side-effects of this drug and how common they are. The first time she took it, she thought her symptoms were due to some other issue coincidentally at the same time.

The second time, it was life-altering, and as you explain, she has never recovered.

When she told her doctor the symptoms, he said to stop the antibiotic immediately. He was led to believe that only athletes, the very young, and very old were normally affected this way. My wife is none of those. Fortunately, my wife can still walk and use her arms, but with great pain.

The pharmaceutical companies are very aware of the extend of the damage these drugs are causing. It is a marketing decision to keep selling these dangerous drugs to doctors while downplaying the seriousness and frequency of the side-effects.

  23. Levofloxacin made my Ehlers Danlos syndrome (that I had no idea I had) 100x worse and that’s what causes the joint dislocations, because these drugs have DNA altering abilities, they can make rheumatoid, autoimmune or other genetic conditions and mutations that an individual has, appear/become more obvious, or become worse. Would be worthwhile if you experience dislocations (like the author) to get tested for EDS.

    1. Hi Kim. Yes, I know that very few things kill Pseudomonas bacteria. I believe this is one of the last resort situations the FDA refers to. This is the kind of bacteria that usually warrants a Fluoroquinolone. This and Anthrax are last resort situations. This is the reason that I’m not trying to advocate for taking them off the marked completely.

      1. Kimberly, here is a good article talking about treatment options. Pseudomonas is very hard to kill and Fluoroquinolones as well as Carbapenems and Cephalosporins. I would ask for a Carbapenem or a Cephalosporin alternative before I resigned myself to a Fluoroquinolone. You have a serious infection, but they can try the others first if they think you aren’t in a life and death situation and they haven’t already tried them. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5978525/

When I got floxed I was on fluconazole which seemed to trigger it. My symptoms were head noise in ears, head pressure. High bp. Over 200 and the bottom got as high as 140. Nervousness, feeling feverish and sick. Terrible weakness. Some aches and pains. I began to take chlorine dioxide in my water that seemed to snap me out of it. The worst part of it be8ng in my head but for the weakness I take gluthione, PQQ it helps to replace those cell powerhouses that get destroyed. And lecithin. That helps for the nervous system. Also helps my ladycare magnet. But have to take these daily. I also have to keep my low blood sugar under control. I may have to take these for the rest of my life so this does not progress further. God blesses eCh of us with His wisdom. Also I started taking sulfur and selenium. I tested one day I stopped and felt my arms getting weaker and weaker so I got right back on gluthione, plus PQQ. Those are essential to recovery.

  28. So sorry for the suffering you have been subjected to. And it sounds like its been for a very long time.I work for an MD that now practices holistic only. She says its “Not integrated, because she doesn’t write any prescriptions or apply medical treatments now”. I was skeptical, however, have seen some really remarkable recovery/improvement in patients that i thought were gonners for sure.
There is a video on Youtube she recommends to patients often “Death by Medicine” by Gary Null. I was kinda shocked & a bit skeptical when I watched it. Then Doc had me read about “John T Rockefelle. Real special creep that man..In 1913, when he realized he could have drugs that kinda matched active parts of herbs from the stuff left over from the oil he owned. I think he was the richest man in america then. And not a nice man by all accounts. He had his scientists make these crappy synthetics from the left over from his oil…then he patented the drugs….so no-one else could make & sell them. Then the bastard charged huge ridiculous money for these drugs he owned that he claimed were miraculous cures. Next he spent $100 million changing up the hospitals, clinic and medical schools throughout “all of America ” crazy right. They were using the natural things like foods & herbs back then at many places. Hospitals & doctors, and medical school people in charge objected to this money mongers drugs & control tactics. However, he just had the objectors shut down, or put in prison….This is all on record people…the whole thing. Now here we are 100 years later and these hoodwinked doctors are still being pumped out of the medical schools & hospitals like donuts in a line at Crispy Creme….all filled up with the same poisonous mess.. And from what I’ve seen with my Grandma…the doctors don’t give a heck about the patients. You might want to watch that video #1…and keep as far away as possible from the doctor and hospitals. If you really think about it…i mean stop and Really think clearly…Why would taking poisons and cutting out parts of the body make a sick body healthy?? like duh right! After you watch the video you might want to look into a natural medicine doctor, or a good herbalist, and an acupressure person, or massage therapy….someone who actually cares and wants you to get and stay well. The doctor here says “There are no incurable diseases…Only incurable people” I hope this helps you . You sound nice, and look kinda like my favorite aunty . sorry this is long. im out

    1. Oh my gosh. This resonates so very personally for me right now! My dad went to ICU in critical condition due to a horrible rash caused by a drug interaction. His primary doctor did nothing to address it for months. He also had a seizure from low electrolytes, and a gastric bleed from ulcers, the bleed due to blood thinners. He was put on steroids which have now caused a fungus in his esophagus. Fortunately, he has been taken off his statin (don’t get me started on those) and blood thinner. But now that he is on antibiotics for the fungus and ulcers, he can’t take his urinary medication and now has a catheter, which is also causing an infection. The side effects from all these drugs is disastrous. He had been on some really amazing supplements that I send him, but for some reason stopped taking them around Christmas. I want him back on them in the rehab center because I know they will help him win this battle, but I am 1500 miles away (going back this weekend) . My sister says they have to get permission from the facility to give him the supplements. I say just give them anyway! This is literally a life or death situation! None of this would have happened if he had been totally medication free! I am so angry! I am now on a mission to get this message out to our senior citizens through a blog, youtube, facebook, whatever. I also have a vision to build True Health Senior Centers that will give seniors everything they need – body, mind and spirit – to live pharma free! Thank you so much for sharing the info on the youtube video and Rockfeller. I will definitely check out both!

They are told so often that it’s “rare,” that when it’s happened right in front of them, they don’t recognize it.
